Coopey, a former history teacher who published four historical novels in four years, will talk about the historical research that wins her novels high praise from readers and what she did that led to a fantastically successful marketing campaign once she realized she needed help marketing her work. A question and answer period will follow. Copies of her books will be available for sale. Non-members $5. Each attendee pays their own restaurant check. Rim Country District meeting – March 18, 2015

Learn how to use your computer more effectively at a free program presented by Arizona Professional Writers (formerly Arizona Press Women) on March 18, at the Payson Public Library, 328 N. McLane Road, Payson.

Starting at noon in the community room, the group’s March meeting will feature speaker Ray Baxter, who teaches two computer courses at Gila Community College and is President of the Payson Area Computer Association. Baxter serves as Director of APCUG, an International Association of Technology and Computer User Groups. He also provides consulting services.

Many people encounter computer problems and find it difficult to keep up with changes in technology.  This computer expert will demystify programs, discuss security concerns and offer tips for success in his talk, “Using Your Computer More Effectively.”

Entry deadline is Monday, Feb. 9. For work that must be submitted in hard-copy format, the entry deadline is Monday, Feb. 2.

January 2015 TypeRider

Start the New Year off right by reading the January 2015 APW TypeRider! See lots of photos of fellow members enjoying holiday get togethers. Read about the newest district of APW and the rules for the 2015 Communications Contest. APW will be having its own contest again, rather than participate in the at-large contest. In this issue you can also meet Jodi Weisberg and find out about writing events coming up this spring.

2015 Student Scholarship Competition announced

Arizona high school students planning to study journalism at an Arizona university or Arizona community college in the fall of 2015 are invited to apply for the $1,000 June Payne Memorial Journalism Scholarship.

Arizona Professional Writers, a statewide organization of professional communicators formerly known as Arizona Press Women, established the annual scholarship with funds honoring the memory of June Payne, a longtime member, journalist and photographer.

Applicants must be graduating high school seniors who intend to major in journalism at an accredited Arizona university or community college. Requirements include filling out an application, a letter of recommendation from a high school teacher, two published [print, online or video] writing/reporting samples and a one-page letter from the student that describes her/his background and the reasons she/he wants to pursue a career in journalism.
